Privacy Policy

Last Updated: 02/16/2025

Introduction

Sing with the Stars is a U.S.-based company, and we provide our services only to users in the United States. This Privacy Policy covers all of our websites and online services (our "web properties") and explains in clear language what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect your privacy. No EU Use: Our website and services are not intended for EU/UK residents, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are an EU or UK resident, please refrain from using our site or providing any personal data.

Information We Collect

We collect two types of information: (1) information you directly provide to us, and (2) information collected automatically when you use our sites.

  • Information You Provide: This is information that you choose to give us. For example, when you sign up, fill out a form, or contact us, we may ask for personal details like your name, email address, phone number, or other contact information. We only collect what you decide to share with us (for instance, if you enter an email to subscribe or a name and address to receive a prize).
  • Information Collected Automatically: When you visit or use our sites, we automatically collect certain data about your visit. This includes technical information (such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system) and usage information (such as the pages you visit, the links you click, and the time you spend on our site). We gather this data through cookies and similar tracking technologies (described below) to understand how our site is used and to improve your experience.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for various purposes to operate and improve our services, including:

  • To Provide and Maintain Services: We use your information to operate our website and services and to give you the features and functionality you expect. For example, we use it to display content, remember your preferences, or process any actions you take on our site. This allows us to provide, maintain, and improve our services, and fulfill any requests or transactions you initiate.
  • To Communicate with You: We may use your contact information to send you updates or respond to inquiries. For instance, if you submit a question or request, we'll use your email to get back to you. We might also send service-related announcements or important information about your account or use of our site (for example, password resets or critical notices).
  • To Improve and Personalize Your Experience: Information about how you use our sites helps us make them better. We analyze usage patterns to fix technical issues, develop new features, and understand what content is most useful to our users. It also helps us personalize your experience – for example, we might remember your preferences or show you content related to your interests.
  • For Marketing and Promotions: We may use your information to send you promotional content or offers. This could include newsletters, special deals, or reminders about events. We will only send you marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, and you can opt out at any time (see Your Choices below). We also use data (including data collected via cookies) to show you relevant ads about Sing with the Stars on other platforms.
  • To Ensure Security and Prevent Fraud: We may use data to protect our website and our users. This includes monitoring for fraudulent activity, security breaches, or violations of our terms. Using data in this way helps us keep our services safe and secure for everyone.

We use your information only for the purposes above and for any other legitimate business purpose that is consistent with our relationship with you, our operations, or as required by law. For example, we do not use automated decision-making or profiling that has legal effects on you, and we do not use your data in ways that are discriminatory or invasive beyond what's described here. All of these uses are aimed at running our business, providing you with a great experience, and communicating with you as needed.

How We Share Your Information

We understand the importance of your personal information, and we handle it carefully. Here is how we may share information, and with whom:

  • Service Providers and Partners: We may share your information with trusted third-party companies that help us run our website and services. These include, for example, technology providers, analytics companies, and marketing partners who process data on our behalf. They only get the information necessary to perform their specific services for us (for instance, analyzing website traffic or sending out email newsletters). Importantly, they are not allowed to use your information for anything other than assisting us under our instructions.
  • Legal Requirements and Protection: We might disclose information if required by law or if we believe in good faith that it's necessary to comply with a legal obligation. For example, we may have to respond to valid subpoenas or court orders. We may also share information if needed to protect our rights or safety or the rights, safety, and property of our users or others. This could include sharing information with law enforcement to investigate fraud or security issues.
  • Business Transfers: If Sing with the Stars is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information might be transferred as part of that deal. We would ensure any new owner continues to honor the privacy commitments we've made in this policy. We would also notify you (for example, via our website) of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.
  • No Selling of Personal Information: We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. In other words, we do not share your personal data with unrelated companies so they can market to you. The only sharing of your data that happens is with the service providers and partners above, and solely to help us provide our services or run our advertising/analytics (not for their independent use). If we ever wanted to use or share your information in a materially different way, we would seek your permission first.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Like many websites, we use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect information and enhance your experience on our site. Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help us recognize you when you return, keep you logged in (if applicable), remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with our content. We also use other technologies like pixels, tags, and scripts provided by our partners that function similarly to cookies.

What we use these for: Some cookies are necessary for our site to function (for example, to remember that you logged in). Others help us improve our site performance and understand usage (analytics cookies), and some are used for advertising – to show you relevant promotions for Sing with the Stars on other websites or social media.

Tracking tools we use: We work with third-party services that set their own cookies or similar technologies on our site to help us with analytics and advertising. Important tools and partners we use include:

  • Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) – This is a snippet of code from Meta (Facebook) that tracks visitor activity on our website. It lets us understand how people interact with our site after seeing our ads on Facebook or Instagram. For example, the Meta Pixel tells us if someone who saw our ad ended up visiting our site or taking a specific action. This helps us measure ad effectiveness and reach people with relevant content.
  • Google Analytics – We use Google Analytics to collect data about how our site is used. Google Analytics uses a tracking code (sometimes called a Google pixel or tag) to gather details on website traffic and user behavior. It can tell us things like how often someone visits, which pages are most popular, what country users are in, and what actions they take on the site. This information helps us improve the site and understand our audience. (Note: Google Analytics provides aggregated statistics and does not give us personal details like your name.)
  • Google Ads Pixel – This is a tool (also known as the Google Global Site Tag) that helps us with advertising on Google's platforms. The Google Ads pixel tracks when you take certain actions on our site after clicking one of our Google ads, such as signing up for an email list or viewing a specific page. It allows us to track conversions (like whether an ad led to a purchase or sign-up) and understand how users interact with our ads and website. This way, we can evaluate and improve our ad campaigns.
  • RB2B (Retention.com) – We use a service called RB2B from Retention.com, which helps us identify and reach out to visitors of our site for marketing purposes. RB2B uses cookies and other identifiers to associate your activity on our site with other information about you, such as your email address or online profiles. In simple terms, if you visit our site, this technology may help recognize who you are (if your email is available through partners) so that we can later send you marketing communications or show ads tailored to you. (See the special notice below about how this works and how you can opt out.)
  • LogRocket – We use LogRocket, which is a session replay tool that records user interactions on our website. LogRocket gives us visibility into what happens during your visit – for example, it can report on clicks, mouse movements, scrolling, and other actions, as well as technical information like browser and device details. We use it strictly for debugging and improving our site. It helps us see what might have gone wrong if you encountered an error, so we can fix bugs faster. Sensitive information (like passwords or payment details) is not recorded by LogRocket.
  • Mixpanel – Mixpanel is an analytics platform that we use to track user interactions and events on our site. It gives us insight into how people engage with various features of our website – for example, it can show us what features are used most often, or at which step users tend to drop off in a process. This information is invaluable for us to understand usage trends and make data-driven improvements. Mixpanel data is typically aggregated and doesn't focus on individual identities, but rather on usage patterns (though it might use unique IDs to distinguish visits).

These third-party tools may set their own cookies or use other identifiers to collect data about your browsing on our site. Each of these providers may also use the information on our behalf (for example, Google and Meta use the data collected to provide us analytics or advertising services). We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Meta, Google, Retention.com, LogRocket, and Mixpanel if you want more details on how they handle the information they collect via their cookies/tools.

Special notice about advertising cookies (RB2B and similar): We want to be transparent about how our advertising partners collect data on our site for marketing purposes. When you visit or log in to our website, cookies and similar technologies may be used by our online data partners or vendors to associate these activities with other personal information they or others have about you, including by association with your email or online profiles. We (or service providers on our behalf) may then send communications and marketing to these emails or profiles. You may opt out of receiving this advertising by visiting https://app.retention.com/optout. In other words, a partner like Retention.com might help us recognize that a certain user (you) visited our site and match that with, say, an email address. We could then send you marketing email or show targeted ads to you based on your visit. If you don't want us to do this, you can opt out so that Retention.com will not identify you in the future (see the opt-out link above). We will honor such opt-outs.

Please note that cookies and tracking tools do not give us access to things like your personal files or photos on your device, and they cannot run programs. They are limited to collecting information described in this policy (like what pages you visit on our site, etc.). If you ever have questions about the specific cookies we use, feel free to contact us.

Your Choices and Controls

We believe it's important that you have control over your personal information and how it's used. Here are some of the choices you have:

  • Cookie Controls: You can control or restrict cookies through your browser settings. Most web browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. You can also set your browser to notify you when a cookie is being placed. If you choose to disable cookies, please note that some parts of our site might not work properly (for example, certain preferences might not be saved). However, you will still be able to use our sites for basic browsing even with cookies disabled. For more information on managing cookies, check your browser's help section. (Hint: Look for settings like "Privacy" or "Cookies" in your browser settings to make these changes).
  • Opting Out of Targeted Advertising: If you do not want your site activity to be associated with your email or used for targeted marketing, you have options to opt out. In particular, if you wish to opt out of being identified by our partner Retention.com (RB2B) for advertising purposes, you can visit their opt-out page at https://app.retention.com/optout (as mentioned above). Once you opt out, Retention.com will stop processing or associating cookies for your email/profile, which means we will not be able to link your visits to your contact info through that service. Additionally, many advertising platforms allow you to adjust your ad privacy settings. For example, on Facebook you can adjust your ad preferences, and Google provides Ad Settings where you can control personalized ads. You can also opt out of many cookie-based ads from multiple companies via industry sites like the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) websites. (These are tools that let you opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.) Using these tools can help reduce targeted ads, though you may still receive general ads.
  • Marketing Emails and Communications: If you subscribe to our newsletter or receive promotional emails from us, you can opt out at any time. Every marketing email we send will include an "unsubscribe" link at the bottom. Simply click that link, and you will be able to stop receiving those emails. You can also opt out of specific types of messages or update your communication preferences by contacting us directly. Please note that even if you opt out of marketing messages, we may still send you important administrative emails (for example, a notice about a policy update or an issue with your account) when necessary.
  • Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that lets you tell websites you do not want to be tracked. Currently, our websites do not respond to DNT signals because there is not a consistent standard for how to interpret them. We continue to monitor industry developments around DNT. In the meantime, you can use the other options described here (like browser cookie controls and the opt-outs above) to manage tracking preferences.
  • Your State Privacy Rights: Certain state privacy laws provide residents of specific states with rights regarding their personal information. If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or Utah, you may have some or all of the following rights under your state's privacy law (each law only applies in certain circumstances):
    • Right to Access: You can ask us for the personal information we maintain about you.
    • Right to Correction: You can ask us to correct any inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
    • Right to Deletion: You can request that we delete personal information we maintain about you.

These rights apply only to residents of those states, and only when required by applicable law. We will honor valid requests to exercise the above rights as required by law. This means that if you are not a resident of one of the states listed above (or if our company is not obligated to comply with that state's law), these rights may not apply to you. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy rights you do have under applicable law.

Remember, it's your data and your experience – and we want you to feel comfortable. If you have any questions about changing your preferences or opting out of certain features, please reach out to us and we'll be happy to help.

Data Security

We take the security of your personal information seriously. Sing with the Stars uses industry-standard security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These measures include technical safeguards (such as encryption of data transmissions, where applicable, and secure servers) and organizational practices (limiting access to personal data to only those employees and contractors who need it to perform their duties).

However, please understand that no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal data and use commercially acceptable means to do so, we cannot guarantee absolute security. For example, although we encrypt many of our services and data, there is always a residual risk that data could be accessed unlawfully. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

We encourage you to also take steps to protect yourself online. Use strong passwords, keep them confidential, and log out of accounts when using a shared device. If you believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure (for example, if you feel that the security of an account has been compromised), please contact us immediately so we can address the issue.

U.S.-Only Service and Non-Applicability of GDPR

Sing with the Stars is intended for users in the United States only. We do not knowingly offer our services to, or target, individuals outside the U.S. All our data storage and processing is done in the U.S. under U.S. laws. This means that European data protection laws (including GDPR) do not apply to our operations, since GDPR protections apply to residents of the European Union. If you are using our services from outside the U.S., please be aware that your information will be collected and stored in the United States, and by using our site you consent to that.

We comply with applicable U.S. privacy laws. For example, if you are a California resident, you may have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or other state laws. While our user base is U.S.-only and primarily not subject to GDPR, we still value transparency and data privacy. If you have any questions about how we handle data with respect to any privacy regulations, you can contact us and we will do our best to answer or accommodate your concerns.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update or change this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make changes, we will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Effective Date" so you can see when the changes took effect. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you by email (if we have your email on file) or by placing a prominent notice on our website. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information. Your continued use of our services after any changes to this policy will signify your acceptance of the updated terms.

This Privacy Policy is current as of the Effective Date listed at the top. If we update the policy, we will let you know by updating the Effective Date and outlining the changes in a changelog or notice.
